In a special event to mark Pride Month, on Saturday 7 June, the Vice-Chancellor joined staff and students for a special breakfast celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer members of the collegiate University.

Despite the rain, more than 100 staff, students, friends, and family gathered to enjoy breakfast together ahead of setting off to participate in this year’s Oxford Pride parade. David Isaac, Provost of Worcester College and Chair of the LGBTQ+ Task and Finish Group, welcomed guests to Worcester.

The event was a collaboration between the LGBTQ+ Task and Finish Group, the Equality and Diversity Unit and the LGBT+ Staff Advisory Group.

A very proud and very joyous day!

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor observed it was “a very proud and very joyous day”, and affirmed the importance of working together to support all members of the LGBTQ+ community during a challenging period of public debate. Underlining her personal commitment to inclusion, Professor Tracey said, “This is something that has been a lifelong mission for me, in my research teams, as head of a department, and it won’t stop as head of the institution.”

The University’s Chief Diversity Officer, Tim Soutphommasane, joined in voicing his commitment to ensuring that Oxford remains an inclusive university: “I hope that you can see today the show of support for everyone in the community, and the breadth and depth of support for LGBTQ+ inclusion.”

Jonny Tridgell, co-chair of the LGBT+ Advisory Group, shared his thanks for everyone who has supported the community. Reflecting on Pride, he said, “It was a fantastic way to start the day and it was lovely to have so many members of the University with us in the parade!”
