LGBT+ Advisory Group

The LGBT+  Advisory Group works with the Equality and Diversity Unit to highlight issues relating to LGBT+ staff and students in order to inform the development of University policy and practice in relation to LGBT+ staff and students and to facilitate consultation and the sharing of information with LGBT+ staff and students.

The LGBT+ Advisory Group Terms of Reference can be found on the right hand menu under documents. 

In conjunction with the EDU, the group also organise:

  • Hilary term: The annual LGBT History month lecture
  • Trinity term: A Panel Debate for Oxford Pride festival and the University Stall for Oxford Pride
  • Michaelmas term: The LGBT Staff Network Annual General Meeting.

Clara Barker (Chair)

Identifies as: Trans-female - I started to medically and socially transition during my last post, going “full-time” prior to starting my current role at Oxford.

Pronouns: She/her

Job title: Technical laboratory manager for the Centre for Superconductivity, Materials.          

Outside interests: Board games, climbing, music (making, watching and listening), biking, camping, sci fi and reading (books and graphic novels!)

Helen Worrell (Vice Chair)

Identifies as: Gay / Queer

Pronouns: She / Her

Job title: Archaeology and Tylor Anthropology Librarian, Bodleian Libraries

Outside interests: road cycling, coaching those new to road cycling, going to spin classes, running a local queer club night (Molly: Party for Queers).

Jessica Tubby (Link Officer)

Identifies as: Bisexual

Pronouns: She/her

Job title: Human Resources Assistant, NDORMS         

Key responsibilities: Provide HR and recruitment support within the department.

Outside interests: Books and comics, pole and aerial silks, yoga, board games.

Jessica will hold the position of Link Officer till September 2021

Helena Palmer (Link Officer)

Identifies as: Bisexual

Pronouns: She/her

Job title: Moritz-Heyman Scholarship Administrator         

Key responsibilities: Managing undergraduate scholarships for UK and EU students, primarily the Moritz-Heyman Scholarship Programme.

Outside interests: Creative writing, the Japanese language and culture, and caring for small furry animals.

Job Title: Widening Access & Participation Assistant (Oxplore), Undergraduate Admissions & Outreach

Key responsibilities: I assist with the UAO’s Oxplore website, which is an innovative digital outreach portal. As the ‘Home of Big Questions’ it aims to engage those from 11 to 18 years with debates and ideas that go beyond what is covered in the classroom. I assist with marketing, inquiries, content development, and outreach activities.

Outside interests: travel, meditation, yoga, cooking, and reading

James will hold the position of Link Officer till September 2021

Freyja Madsen (Link Officer)

Identifies as: Bisexual
Pronouns: She/her
Job title: Academic Registrar, New College
Key responsibilities: Coordinates student support services and academic recruitment at New College. I am also the College’s Disability Officer, Equality Officer, and a Harassment Advisor.
Outside interests: Twentieth-century American literature, horror films, art, rugby
