Harassment in Higher Education Training

Effective 26 October 2024, the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 introduced a legal duty for employers to proactively take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of workers in the course of their employment, including sexual harassment by third parties.

In response, the University launched required training for all University staff; Harassment in Higher Education. The training is a vital part of our continued efforts to foster a positive, inclusive environment for all.

The training has been developed in alignment with work to comply with the Office for Students Condition E6: Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, which came into effect on 1 August 2025. Condition E6 requires universities to take effective action to prevent and respond to harassment and sexual misconduct affecting students.

The training (which takes 20-30 minutes to complete) provides practical advice on what constitutes harassment, including sexual harassment, and the steps to take if staff witness or experience harassment. It also offers guidance for managers on how to handle a complaint.

Our shared goal is to ensure at least 90% of staff complete the training by 28 February 2026. If you haven’t yet done so, please complete the training as soon as possible and encourage your colleagues to do the same.
