27 January, 11am to 12.45pm
Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre Auditorium, Worcester College
Our Hilary Term Roundtable will focus on the relationship between EDI and freedom of speech. Across higher education, responses to regulatory developments (such as the Office for Students’ guidance on freedom of speech) have highlighted the intersection between EDI and free speech. How should we understand EDI in this shifting landscape? What are some of the practical steps we can take to balance equality and free speech? And how can we lead on EDI in a polarised, and often outraged world?
Our Roundtable will feature panel discussions drawing upon a range of perspectives from within the collegiate University and the higher education sector.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Prof Karthik Ramanna (Professor of Business and Public Policy, Blavatnik School of Government and author of The Age of Outrage)
- Dr Julius Grower (Associate Professor, Faculty of Law)
- Jim Dickinson (Associate Editor, WonkHE)
- Kathy Noren (Co-Head, Student Welfare and Support Services)
- Kulbir Shergill (Director of Social Inclusion, University of Warwick)
- Marilyn Verghis (Interim Head, Equality and Diversity Unit)
Lunch and refreshments will immediately follow the conclusion of the Roundtable at 12.45pm.
