Dame Fiona Caldicott studied medicine at St Hilda’s College and had a successful career as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and became the first female President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Since the 1990s she has led investigations into the challenges of circulating and protecting patient medical information in a digital age: chairing what became known as the Caldicott Committee to advise the NHS, before being appointed to the new role of National Data Guardian for Health and Care in 2014. She was the Principal of Somerville College from 1996 to 2010.
