Having several trans and gay friends, I witness on a daily basis the challenges many of them face, many of which are the direct result of others’ micro-behaviours. I am a firm believer that everyone should be allowed to express their innate sense of self without feeling they have to succumb to the pressures that our heteronormative society place upon us. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, compassion and welcomed into society as an individual with a lot to offer. While I fully appreciate we have come a long way, there is a long road ahead of us and I am proud to be part of a group that aims to promote these issues and support those who need it. Together we can continue to educate people to be more open-minded, and keep pushing the boundaries until we arrive at a destination where everyone feels safe to express who they really are.
