My job largely entails helping the university's sports clubs to organise fixtures and events against other universities across the country.
The sporting landscape is becoming increasingly more exclusive with more and more restrictions being placed each month, particularly on trans people wishing to take part in sport. There are many factors like this that are largely outside of our control and there is often a lot of noise around the LGBT+ community from the media but I was interested in becoming an LGBT+ Ally as I believe in controlling what you can and working to foster safe spaces within whatever environment you are in to ensure that everyone can live and thrive as themselves.
Becoming an LGBT+ Ally is not only useful for building an awareness of the challenges the LGBT+ community can face but also in practical suggestions on how better to support our LGBT+ staff and students.
