My role is predominantly about the day-to-day administration of a research centre, but it’s also about creating a welcoming environment for all staff, students and visitors. Oxford is a place that attracts people from a variety of backgrounds, so nurturing a sense of belonging is essential for me to ensure that everyone feels free to be themselves. An LGBT+ Role Model is a visible example for those who may not feel confident about personal expression or being who they are at work. It also reminds me to constantly better myself.
