My role supports recruitment to the University's most senior academic and management positions. I wanted to become an LGBT+ Ally to think about how we can make our hiring processes even more inclusive.
A welcoming smile or a word of encouragement or compassion cost nothing but can make such a difference to help people feel safe and supported. In the training workshop, we were told that allies don't have to be superheroes, just lots of ordinary people making small changes which all add up to make the world a better place. I'm delighted to commit to doing my bit as an LGBT+ Ally both here within the University and in my life outside work, and encourage you to think what you could do too.
